# User Interview Five Questions (GV Method)

A structured interview technique from Google Ventures that uses five progressively deeper questions to move from surface-level context to core motivations.

## Steps

1. **Easy opener** — Ask a broad, friendly question about the user's role or context to build rapport. E.g., "Tell me about how you currently handle [topic]."
2. **General context** — Explore their typical workflow and habits around the problem space. E.g., "Walk me through the last time you did [activity]."
3. **Deep dive** — Probe a specific moment or pain point in detail. E.g., "What was the hardest part of that experience?"
4. **Reaction to concept** — Show a prototype or idea and ask for honest feedback. E.g., "What do you think this would change about your process?"
5. **Closing priorities** — Ask them to rank what matters most. E.g., "If you could fix one thing about this, what would it be?"

## Output Format

A numbered list of five tailored questions with follow-up prompts, plus a post-interview summary template capturing key quotes, themes, and surprises.
